Real-time phenomena in QCD at non-zero temperature

The properties of strongly interacting matter at non-zero temperature are studied experimentally in heavy-ion collisions and theoretically by analytic and numerical methods, particularly lattice QCD. The thermal system undergoes a transition from a gas of pions, kaons etc. to a high-temperature phase characterized by restored chiral symmetry and colored degrees of freedom. While equilibrium properties are rather well established, off-equilibrium properties are more challenging to study. I give an overview of recent results and the methods used in lattice QCD, while briefly mentioning other strongly-coupled thermal systems.
